So I've been craving to write lately. Weird, right? I've only had to write 5 trillion papers this semester, and we're only half way done... But I have felt this unnatural pull to my old journal and blog. So here I am... writing about wanting to write something. But I don't want to just write anything, like I am. I want to write like Dan Haseltine and Cody Bonnette... I want to write something amazing and thought provoking and deep. I've been drawn to their music. Dan is the lead singer of Jars of Clay, and Cody the lead singer of As Cities Burn aka Hello Highwater aka Hawkboy. Anyone who has heard both these bands know the ONLY thing they have in common is emotion and deep, deeeeep lyrics and they are listed next to each other on the mos popular bands on www.christianrocklyrics.com.
Dead man, were you ever alive?
Or was I just a seed you buried deep inside
Some woman you wed
Right before you crawled out of her bed and crept down the hall?
Did you think of me?
Did you even for a second hesitate in the doorway?
It's just something that I'd like to know
Though I'd still love you if told me
You just walked away
My God, what a world You love
Where men bury their sons
And without thought just walk away
And my mother's heart breaks
Like the water inside of her
Dead man, is it being high that makes you alive?
It makes you leave behind three boys and a wife in '89
As the track marks inched their way up your arm
My mother taught my brothers and I not to call you daddy
But to call you father
But I believe there is something here to be learned of grace
'Cause I can't help but love you
Even with a heart that breaks
Like the promises that you made
These are lyrics to the song "Widow" by As Cities Burn. Check out the video below. Or listen to the song on Youtube. It's so emotional and real. And some may not think it's uplifting but to those who have been in similar situations as the writer this is a message of hope. It certainly touched me.
Til then...
