Today I met a woman who traveled to a foreign country to help free girls from lives as sex slaves. She explained to me that the organization she was with would go in and "buy" a girl, present a safe place for her to go, giving her freedom from her captors. I was thrown off by the word buy...
... And I asked her to explain a little more. What she said shook me to my absolute core and brought me to immediate tears. She said the girls were bought for 24 dollars. Their freedom, or captivity equals 24 dollars?!? I wanted to yell, I still want to yell. What has happened to us? Yes, yes, I know we are a fallen race but, even before I was under the grace of Jesus I would never have treated another human being this way. How can this be? I don't understand, I will never understand. How can a life be so meaningless? TWENTY FOUR DOLLARS!
Psalm 119:28-31
"I am weary from grief;
strengthen me through Your word.
Keep me from the way of deceit
and graciously give me
Your instruction.
I have chosen the way of Truth;
I have set Your ordinances
before me.
I cling to Your decrees;
Lord, do not put me to shame.
Check out this cool organization, Run For Their Lives . The 5k run is on October 20th at Husson College in Bangor at 9am. Check it out, pray for them, support them, run, or just volunteer. If saving someone from a life of sex slavery, or any slavery, can cost as little as $24 don't you think it's time to help out?
Blessings,
